Dear
Sean and the community in general:
All should know that Rotary is a non-political and non-religious organization. While our individual members have and are guided by both political and religious considerations, Rotary, as a whole does not base its actions on either. This is a philosophy that has allowed Rotary a high level of international success and resulted in its great ability to promote international peace and understanding.
The goal of Rotary is "Service Above Self" and not service for self. Rotarians endeavor to base their actions on a simple equation called the 4 way test:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Rotary is most certainly not a forum for a Bully Pulpit of any kind. While Sean was the President of the Northglenn-Thornton Rotary Club he certainly, over the very strenuous objections of many of the members, used his office as a Bully Pulpit.
For the record, many of us who were members of the Club at the time Sean was President, do not share the same fond memories of his Presidency as he does. While Sean's heart and his desire to accomplish what he believes to be good things seems to be in the right place, his methods are very questionable and often seem mis-guided.
Sean, shame on you, you should not be trying to use your membership in Rotary as a stepping stone to achieve your personal goals and put forth your personal beliefs.
Your actions and writings in a public forum involving Rotary are a discredit to a wonderful organization, who's only purpose is to help others, with out reference to who they are, where they are or what they believe.
Sincerely
Jerry M. Rohlfs
President,
Denver Metro North Rotary Club
