Commissioners who are typically sympathetic for the underdogs in society, whether for working women, or cultural minorities of the elderly, sick, or disabled, they imply a commitment to the welfare state. They support welfare, unemployment benefits, trade unions, universal health care and child care, guaranteed pension plans, public housing, and so on - prodding the rest of the population to adopt these policies.
I resist this socialization of the Northglenn Planning Commission. I am for free enterprise and entrepreneurship. I believe in training and personal responsibility.
The enduring attitudes and behaviors that characterize this Municipal Planning group are far to Liberal, for my likes. This political culture endures because the elemental attitudes are reinforced by the Northglenn City Council and the Mayor, and have been passed to her political appointees.
The media plays an important role in informing citizens and structures the way political issues and conflicts are viewed and often discourages individual participation and minority opinions.
Political participation is an important right of citizenship in all democracies. Many young children think of political leaders in positive terms, as being willing to help them build a skate park. However, children tend to become more cynical and less trusting as they grow up. Adults in different social groups frequently differ from group to group. Negative, if they feel they are being discriminated against; or Positive, if they think the government is trying to assist them. Members of majority groups may resent government efforts to assist minorities if those efforts are perceived as excessive or detrimental to our own interests.
The pursuit of equality of the "common man" imposes limits on the individual freedoms of the uppermost high achievers, leading to mediocrity. While the pursuit of freedomleads to important inequalities among our citizens.
In our modern democracy, the hope that individuals are free to become whatever our talents and efforts will allow. No barriers, including the government, should stand in our way. Individuals should be free to be unequal in our accomplishments. It does more harm than good to give government the power to remedy advantages when advantages do occur. Conservatives favor liberty over equality. This is freedom from political coercion.
My conservative values doubt this Liberal Northglenn administration and welfare city. The economic policies, the backsliding moral principles are attempts to apply abstract ideas to practical circumstances and amounts to social engineering. I mistrust the lure of utopian hopes of our intellectual mayor. The Council tends to throw our good money after the bad.

I believe that God is speaking in a million different voices. God speaks to us even as we entertain ourselves with movies and music. We talk of life; life lived in our days, with its particular nuances spread across norms in our society we share with others. We must recognize and understand the world in which we live; its expectations; it longings. We study the actions, words, and thoughts of Jesus. Help us have deep confidence as you guide and help us recognize the great things you have given. If the blind man has the proper attitude, he can experience what he wants most of all. An attitude of confidence is worth our time and effort. Our confidence, our faith, will lead us beyond the negative. “Because of your faith, it shall be done unto you; and the blind can now see.”
