Welcome Rugby players and fans to Northglenn
Contributed by: DR. SEAN REIF D.C. on 8/23/2006

The Denver Highlanders Rugby Football Club was founded in 1968 and has enjoyed a 38 year history of excellence both on and off the pitch. The Highlanders are proud to field the only USA Division I men's rugby club in Denver, Colorado. Fresh off our 2006 Western RFU (Rugby Football Union)Northern Sub-Region championship and US National Sweet 16 Playoff appearance this past spring, the Highlanders are looking strong and feeling confident as we embark on the upcoming campaign to defend our Top Ten national ranking. The Denver Highlanders are more than a rugby club; we are a family of over 200 active players, old boys, and social members.

As the Denver Highlanders entered the 21st century our success on the field has continued, with successive Eastern Rockies RFU D2 championships in 1999, 2000, and 2001 At this time the mighty Highlanders moved to the upper division 1 competition and won the championship outright in the 2002 -2003 season.

In the '80s the Highlanders came up with two fun tournaments that continue today and each year. The first is an All-Comers tournament, and this is exactly what it represents. Players from many metro clubs, including University and High School sides come to this Open Invitation event. It has proven to be an outstanding venue for all ruggers who love the game, and is played in an open format where all teams are mixed. The talent is dispersed to make it a competitive arrangement, and one where the players are able to meet new friends from many different club sides.

The Summer 7's is also a very special Highlander event. Each week as many as 10 sides compete in a fiercely competitive considering it's summer event. At the end of the summer, a winner is declared based upon there overall week to week performance.
As a part of our 501c3 (tax free, non-profit) status, the Highlanders volunteer yearly at the Children's Hospital Christmas Party and have hosted a fundraising event, the Highlander Halloween Extravaganza, for the benefit of Craig Hospital Rehabilitation Center.

Whether on the pitch or off, the Denver Highlanders offer a winning combination of guts and determination, as well as a healthy respect for post-game festivities.

We golf, surf the waves, snow and the internet, pierce and tattoo our body, and drink double vanilla lattes'. Weaned on the computer, and Led Zeppelin, we cut our teeth on the edge of technology, information, and art. We are the athletes, the small businessmen and women, the celebrities, the producers of this era. We will be active rollerblading, snowboarding, playing rugby, hiking, rodeo. We may be seen attending the PRO/ college sports, eating out at the downtown restaurants, playing in the park with our young families. We are Generation X. Sensitive and mature to our own and others needs. We are smart, wise, Xtreme, and Xciting.
