Highlanders Rugby Road to Omaha Victory

The Denver Highlanders continued their winning ways with a workmanlike victory over the Goats in Omaha on Saturday. Traveling at strength with almost a full B side the men arrived with speed and numbers.

The Highlanders started strong and early pressure led to a try from veteran full-back Bredehoeft who scored under the posts untouched. Gibson converted for a 7-0 lead.

Further Highlander pressure saw a cleverly delayed chip by Gibson tapped back into play from behind the dead-ball line, in a NFL style special-teams play, by winger Ryan Diehl which Stoter touched down.

Diehl, an All-American from Temple, had his best senior game thus far and made one more for Stoter before touching down himself . A Gibson penalty made for a 27-3 Highlander half-time lead.

The second half saw the temperatures dip and flurry of snow but the Goats came back for a final score of Highlanders 34-11 Omaha.

For the Goats, feisty center Galen Helton and flanker Phil Lee had combative games while the Highlander effort saw some tremendous tackling by the Wineland brothers and incisive running by Diehl. Highlanders now lead the Western Northern Division and remain undefeated before facing Boulder next week. While Highlander Coach Steve Lewis was content with another road win, he noted that "we are still some way short of playing our best rugby.

This weeks season finalle features a classic show-down of traditional Eastern Rockies RFU powerhouses Denver Highlanders versus Boulder Rugby Football Club, Saturday October 28 at the Wyco Park in Northglenn (11551 Wyco Dr.) just east of 115 th and Irma.

A mother told her young son to go to bed and be sure to say his prayers and ask God to make him a good boy. The boy's father, passing by the bedroom, overheard his son praying: "...and make me a good boy if you can; and if you can't, don't worry about it, because I'm having fun the way I am."
