Darden to play JUCO basketball in Wyoming
Contributed by: John Eisel/YourHub.com on 4/28/2006

One day, Eastern Wyoming Community College basketball coach Andy Ward heard from an assistant coach who heard from a guy that he works with that there's a 6-8 basketball player in Northglenn, Colorado that could play for EWCC.

A few months later, Northglenn High School senior Meneptha Darden signed to play basketball for the Lancers in Torrington, Wyo., a small town in the east-central part of the state.

"We're excited to have him," Ward said.

According to RockyPreps.com, Darden averaged 9.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.9 blocks a game for the Norsemen, who went 11-12 last year.

Ward says he's sees a ton of potential in Darden's thin frame.

"You just have to continue to get stronger," Ward said, adding Darden will play either center or power forward. "As he gets stronger, his confidence is going to improve."

In a down campaign last season, the Lancers went 16-15 while competing in the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference.Ward said the Lancers had been yearly contenders for the Region IX title since he arrived four years ago.

Darden won't be the lone Coloradoan on the squad, as Erie's Brendan Puckett will be a sophomore and the Lancers also signed Monarch point guard Anthony Urrutia.

Ward said the team will be young next year, so the two will have ample opportunity to prove they belong on the court.
