DENVER , COLO . - Metro State has signed Brittany Freel, Becca Horner, Becca Mays, Justine Montoya, Amanda Nance and Jenna Oney to national letters of intent to play soccer for the Roadrunners beginning with the 2006 season, Roadrunner head coach Danny Sanchez has announced.
Freel, Horner, Montoya and Oney are all from Colorado, while Mays hails from Texas and Nance is from Arizona. All are high school recruits, except for Nance who transfers from Mesa Community College.
"We are very excited about this recruiting class," said Sanchez. "We filled a lot of our needs heading into the 2006 season. Each player has the potential to make an immediate impact."
Freel, a forward from Hinkley High School, and Horner, a back from Rangeview High School, both are from Aurora. Montoya is a forward from Brighton and Northglenn High School, while Oney is a midfielder/back from Centennial and Grandview High School. Mays played at Madison High School in San Antonio, Texas, while Nance is from Peoria, Ariz.
Sanchez will announce additional signings in the coming weeks. Metro State posted a 23-0-1 record in 2005 and won the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Roadrunners advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
