Northglenn Norse youth football camp

Are you ready for some football? On Saturday over one-hundred Northglenn youth certainly were. Not even the sweltering heat could alter the excitement of the youngsters who attended the Norse Youth Football Camps at Northglenn High School. Hosted by the football program at Northglenn High, the camps were open to area kids from grades one through eight at no cost. The school's coaching staff and football players taught fundamental skills and the wide receiver group even judged a contest for the best touchdown dance.

Through donations and sponsorships the Northglenn Football Boosters were able to provide lunch and a t-shirt to all participants. First year Head Coach Mike Marquez stated, "This event was planned so our program could give back to the community. This area has a strong football tradition and it begins with the youth leagues. I am so proud of my boys and their effort with the kids today." Organizers hope to have more participants in years to come.

Saturday's activities were designated as the community service project for the Northglenn Football Program and they were well represented by over seventy Norse players. Each team member was assigned a task from jobs that included coaching, handling registration, and cooking for the camp participants. Their hard work and enthusiasm were the key to making the event successful.

A number of local schools host similar events, but several spectators were pleasantly surprised by the cost. One parent beamed, "I can't believe this is free, we've paid to attend two other camps and had to pay extra for lunch." Although their season has not yet started, the Northglenn football program achieved its first victory on Saturday. Their efforts created excitement about the program and inspired community support. Most importantly, the high school players provided a great example for their new young fans to follow.
