Like a couple of fishes

What do big bellies, giraffe necks, and torpedoes have in common? If you said a spontaneously combustible pregnant ruminant, kudos on the creativity scale. But no.

Actually, these are all terms that instructor Sean Lundgren uses to teach the 5-year-olds in his Level I swim class how to move through the water.

Bennett Meyers and Jessica Tomshack practiced their pool skills May 5 at Northglenn Recreation Center. For half an hour, the two practiced swimming on their fronts and their backs, floating and kicking. As a special treat Lundgren took them for a few short swims in the deep end before Bennett and Jessica took turns jumping off the diving board.

Water safety was an important lesson during class. Lundgren reminded his two waterlogged students to always swim with an adult. Bennett and Jessica also got to practice throwing a flotation device out into the water.
