Tappy Feet make a happy feat
Contributed by: Michele Natarelli on 11/27/2006

The animated penguin film, Happy Feet (Warner Bros.,) remained in the number one slot over the Thanksgiving holiday with $37.9 million from Friday to Sunday and has now made over $51.5 million. What a feat for Happy Feet, a wonderful animated film about danicng and singing penguins.

To celebrate the opening of this fun family film, Colorado Dance Coalition held a jam session with area tap dance students at Parker's Twenty Mile Village Stadium Theater on opening night, Nov. 17. The crowds were gathered in the lobby to watch the young tappers improvise and challenge each other. The audience loved the diversion as they "oohed" and "aaahhed" over each tap dancers' steps and tricks.

The kids started in a circle and performed the Shim Sham, which is basically the universal anthem of tap dancers. Anywhere tap dancers go in the world, they can bond with other tap dancers through the Shim Sham and that's exactly what happened that night as tap dancers from at leastthree different studios came together to dance.

After the Shim Sham, the tappers each got a chance to shine on stage, some stomped, some shuffled, some flew high. It was a great way to get theater-goers excited about the film and the community excited about the dance.
