Blog Entry 136 of 300 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (it's called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Spring Show kicks off a new season of art

We all feel the effect of seasonal changes one way or another. The warmer days of spring let us get out in the fresh air and walk. Our kids can spend time in the park instead of watching television and even the chores of shopping and commuting to work can be more enjoyable.

One of two major local art events of the year, sponsored by the Parker Artists Guild, takes place at the Mainstreet Center on Saturday and Sunday, 31st March and 1st April. Forty-five local artists will display their best work to the public in every art form, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, photography, pottery, glasswear, jewelry, sculpture and a variety of mixed-media. Months of hard work by these artists will be rewarded.

Parker artist Susan Merriman, shown here, looks forward to the Spring Art Show each year as it always signals the real start of the summer "art season," when artists begin to show their work. "There is so much more activity and energy in the art community when the snow and cold weather are over," she says. Susan will be one of the many artists displaying her work at the Spring Art Show.

Holding this event inside offers some protection from the unpredictable weather of course. Visitors can also enjoy entertainment sponsored by the Parker Arts Council. The show gets bigger and better each year with activities for both adults and kids to enjoy. Open from 10a.m. to 5p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the show is free and open to the public.

See photographs for examples of some of the art on display. For more information about the 200 member strong Parker Artists Guild go to www.parkerartistsguild.com, and look for information about the huge Art in The Park Show scheduled for August 25th and 26th.
