Blog Entry 291 of 298 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (it's called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

So go fly a kite already

The next time someone suggests you "go fly a kite," you can retain control of the situation. You don't always have to be a blockhead like poor Charlie Brown.

On Saturday, May 9, 2009, the Downtown Development Council is bringing a Kite Flying Festival to Parker. It will be held at O'Brien Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.with registration starting at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free. What, you may ask, do you get for the price of admission? Plenty.

The event is for kids ages 5 - 15. Prizes will be awarded in many categories including:

Longest flying kite
Best handmade kite ages 5 -10
Best handmade kite ages 11 - 15
Most unique kite - all ages

In addition there will be hands-on activities led by representatives from kite organizations. Spectators can learn all about kite flying, participate in kite-making workshops, learn about the history of kites, and watch kite demonstrations. Learn how to avoid kite-eating trees (see photo).

This fun event will be brought to you by the DDC, The Warhorse Inn, Parker Station Professional Offices and Innovative Artists.

Start planning now. Dig the old kites out of storage or get to work making something brand new.

Brings back memories of visiting an open air hut where the locals were making beautiful handmade kites out of recycled construction materials. Can't wait to see all the creativity we have in the community!

Sounds like great fun event for all ages. Ron Beller

This is exactly what we need in Parker - thanks Joe for sharing this information. Bravo.

This is a great activity for families and friends of Parker. The photo is fantastic also. I will certainly be there and will spead the word about such a fun-filled day
