(You like how I applied
Joe McDaniel's
tips for better blogging in my title? Yeah, me too.)
I've been reading
The Creative License by my new friend (who I just haven't toldyet), artist and author
Danny Gregory . I also remember overhearing
certain frisbee golf-loving colleagues discuss their thoughts on the benefits of blogs driven by goals the other day. And
Robert White's blogabout how he's revising his 50,000 word draft has also been floating in my subconscious.
After writing another long-winded letter to
Julie, oozing with "Here's my stream of consciousness right now, how's yours?" babble, I've come to a conclusion.
It ain't about
the money. It ain't about
the rest of the world and their opinions. It's about
the dream.
I've been saying I can work on revising my humorous fiction novel for too long, promising I'll use my spare time better...
Saying and not doing.
Afraid of all the work. Afraid of my lack of training (those personal demons can make you thinka bachelors in writing and one course in fictionaren't enough and yet I first wrote the book when I was still an undergrad. I didn't think I wasn't qualified then, did I?). Afraid of spending my precious time on something that might not end up in print. Afraid I won't have the cajones to keep it up. Afraid it'll interfere with my work here. Afraid of change.
Excuses are easy.
Then again, so is blogging.
As I wrote to Julie, I remembered how dedicated I am to blogging and how, when I begin something in this blog, I always make an effort to follow through at least once.
That's when I decided I'll blog about revising my book. I hope this works.
Please, dear readers, revisit me. Help me shoo off those personal demons and maybe, just maybe, we'llappreciate the rhythms when I admit to dancing with them a little.
If you'll excuse me, I have a book to re-acquaint myself with. Thanks for the read.
