Blog Entry 79 of 196 Dial 'T' for Tabitha
I'm a bicycling poet who lived in Parker for several years and worked at YourHub.com, covering Parker and Franktown for two years.

I am studying poetry at CSU in the Master of Fine Arts program ...

I hope you can post a comment or two and that you will enjoy my blogs.

Fiction addiction

(You like how I applied Joe McDaniel's tips for better blogging in my title? Yeah, me too.)

I've been reading The Creative License by my new friend (who I just haven't toldyet), artist and author Danny Gregory . I also remember overhearing certain frisbee golf-loving colleagues discuss their thoughts on the benefits of blogs driven by goals the other day. And Robert White's blogabout how he's revising his 50,000 word draft has also been floating in my subconscious.

After writing another long-winded letter to Julie, oozing with "Here's my stream of consciousness right now, how's yours?" babble, I've come to a conclusion.

It ain't about the money. It ain't about the rest of the world and their opinions. It's about the dream.

I've been saying I can work on revising my humorous fiction novel for too long, promising I'll use my spare time better...

Saying and not doing.

Afraid of all the work. Afraid of my lack of training (those personal demons can make you thinka bachelors in writing and one course in fictionaren't enough and yet I first wrote the book when I was still an undergrad. I didn't think I wasn't qualified then, did I?). Afraid of spending my precious time on something that might not end up in print. Afraid I won't have the cajones to keep it up. Afraid it'll interfere with my work here. Afraid of change.

Excuses are easy.

Then again, so is blogging.

As I wrote to Julie, I remembered how dedicated I am to blogging and how, when I begin something in this blog, I always make an effort to follow through at least once.

That's when I decided I'll blog about revising my book. I hope this works.

Please, dear readers, revisit me. Help me shoo off those personal demons and maybe, just maybe, we'llappreciate the rhythms when I admit to dancing with them a little.

If you'll excuse me, I have a book to re-acquaint myself with. Thanks for the read.

hey tabitha sorry to contact you this way but i couldnt get to your home page because of my computer! i was wondering if anything of mine has been published since june 25 because i have been on vacation? let me know and thank you very much!

Let's all vow that we will be in print within five years.

Wow guys, wow... A very big thank you to all of you who've responded. I can't believe I got so many comments. This makes a huge difference. Danny Gregory's right that other people will most likely think it's cool that you're being creative, rather than criticize you for trying. Stephanie, I'm taking your advice to heart. I think you have an awfully good point-- it takes so long, I know, to hear back from agents and publishers.

Tabitha, Tsk Tsk...send out a query letter and you will feel better. "You can't get published if you don't submit." I am 22 days into the wait for a YES or NO from the publisher who has the 1st 3 chapters of my "baby."

Well, all of these things are things we fear. But, the important thing is, despite the fear we may feel, will we also feel regret for not facing those fears? If it doesn't end up in print, at least you can look back and say "Dang, I really, really tried," as opposed to "What if I put in the effort?" Keep going... it'll pay off.

I definately know what you mean, I do that too.(A lot!) When I keep putting a task off and decide to do my other, more interesting jobs, I dread it all day long. Just do it first and get it over with! I hear ya!

I'd have to agree with rob on the "amen" part, there's not much more that I can say besides that Im so speechless right now. You've managed to sum up exactly how Ive been feeling lately. For that Im trully grateful, take care and keep up with the good work.

Amen.
