No surfing ... and no snowing, either ...

Ah yes. I will probably always remember the snow storm that hit the Denver area Oct. 25, not because I walked for an hour in it to get to work like Brendan Leonard, but because Alex and I were on a catamaran tour of Kauai's gorgeous Na Pali coast in Hawaii when a Lakewood couple told us the news.

We started planning our trip last July, long before the average meteorologist could predict the snow that we got in October (you can find an above-average weather blog for Arvada by Rick Smith, here).

Today, YourHub.com community journalist Kevin Hamm asked me if I did any surfing while in Hawaii. Though boogie boarding on a Waikiki beach was a highlight, I didn't attempt any surfing.

We mainly focused on spotting spinner dolphins, monk seals (I watched one return to the water after digesting his food on Poipu Beach), rainbows and places to get quality shave ice(very popular in Hawaii, shave ice is essentially a fancy snow cone with optional ice cream on the bottom and a choice of up to three flavors, like guava, passion fruit, raspberry, coconut, watermelon, etc.).

Though I am not the surfer you envisioned, I hope my photos don't disappoint, Kevin. Maybe we'll return to Hawaii soon so I can master a surf board.

Personally, I think Hawaii proves that season changes are highly overated.

I guess I have an answer now to my question, "Now that I live where I'd normally vacation, where do I go on holiday?"

Great pictures, Tabitha. Thanks for sharing (and glad to have you back)!

Such the traveler these days, when I get a chance to take a trip to hawaii I would like to visit all the islands especially the USGS volanco observatory which is stationed on mount Kilauea. Hope your trip went well, take care.

Glad your back. We went to Oahu and the Big Island in 2001 for our honeymoon. Now I really want to go back!

Kauai is the best! Did you get shave ice from Jojos? Nice pics Tabitha -- glad you had a great time.

Duuude ... Thanks, Kevin. And Reine, I also love snow and the winter, though, after this trip, I don't know if that's true any more. Thanks for the comments, folks. It's good to be back.

Ahh, Hawaii ... land of the sea cat. Next trip you'll have to go to the North Shore and carve some sick pipelines, but make sure you're not locked in the tube on a beach break -- you won't be very stoked then. Dude. Nice pics, Tabitha.

I admit that though I adore snow and cold, I am envious of your fantastic vacation! Alex is a great photographer!

Terrific photos Tabitha. Loved the dolphins shot!
