Blog Entry 168 of 194 Dial 'T' for Tabitha
I'm a bicycling poet who lived in Parker for several years and worked at YourHub.com, covering Parker and Franktown for two years.

I am studying poetry at CSU in the Master of Fine Arts program ...

I hope you can post a comment or two and that you will enjoy my blogs.

Who posts something online without wanting a response?

... Thanks for the read.

My nickname's Hazmat ... what's yours?
Contributed by: Tabitha Dial   on 5/23/2007

On this, the first day in a week that I haven't had at least one nap by this time of day (it's 3 p.m. here and I slept in this morning until 9 and that made a big difference), I have painted for about three hours.

Two of those hours were spent suited up. A fellow writer who is enjoying his residency here told me yesterday that my nickname is "Hazmat" because of my recently acquired painting suit.

But I'm glad I've had that suit. The green paint I have used on a deck and outdoor stairs (I'm doing a few odd jobs to help pay for my time here) is so sticky, greasy and gross that I tried to write a slam poem about it. I have deemed my writing unsuitable for revision, even though I kinda like the idea that the paint "must have been mixed -- I swear -- by the devil himself on a particularly danceless day."

There's also a couple drops of it on my jeans -- it seeped through the suit. And the fingers of my yellow dishwasher-grade gloves sometimes stick together, coated in the tar-like stuff.

I think the paint brush will have to be incinerated. Maybe it can help fuel Doc Brown's DeLorean.

I've also been working on more artful stuff, inspired by a painter who's work was on display in the main building here when we arrived.

Feel free to beg, borrow, steal and .... oh yeah ...enter your creative works in the Douglas County Creativity Contest by June 30.
