Blog Entry 172 of 270 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

New Age art to decorate Parker Fieldhouse
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 6/14/2007

Parker photographer Steve Friedman is a frequent fixture at local area sporting events. High School and youth sports enthusiasts will often see him on the sidelines with camera in hand. Steve is, however, anything but your ordinary photographer. He turns his photo images into digital paintings.

He uses the term Digital Natural Media to describe a complex series of processes that he uses. It is a union of camera, computer, digital "paint brush," paper and printer. By balancing elements of realism and abstractionism Friedman achieves an effect that "plays' with the viewer's eye and imagination and bridges the gap that has traditionally separated photographic techniques from traditional artistic techniques.

Although using a photograph as a starting point, Steve's goal is to evoke the identical look and feel of an impressionist's painting using rather high-tech tools. The vibrant and impressive results will be on display at the opening of the new Parker Field House on Saturday June 23rd.

Jim Cleveland, Director of Recreation and Parks Development, commissioned Friedman to provide 12 of his sports-related images to permanently decorate the Parker Field House. These will be unveiled at the Grand Opening. The images each measure 32in x 24inches and represent local soccer, little league, field hockey, inline hockey, football, baseball and cycling.

For more information about this innovative and creative artist and his work go to www.digitalartmasterworks.com or email sfriedman39@comcast.net.

The impressive Parker Field House is located at 18700 E. Plaza Drive in Parker, just a few blocks west of Parker Road. For activities and program information call 303-805-6300 or go to www.parkeronline.org/recreation/.
