Blog Entry 213 of 270 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Kidz art program fun and educational
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 11/24/2007

On the third Saturday of each month Parker's popular Kidz Kulture program is offered for kids and parents at the Mainstreet Center, 1960 E. Mainstreet at 10:00 a.m.

The program is sponsored by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) and presented by the Parker Cultural Commission, Parker Library and the Parker Artists Guild. The program is free, although pre-registration is requested.

Since last summer the fall series theme has been "Around the World" and has featured The Australian Didgeridoo, Tales from Latin America and, in October, Greek Mythology.

At each Saturday morning presentation there is a live stage performance and a hands-on art project by enthusiastic volunteer members of the Parker Artists Guild (PAG). Linda Pylican has been heading up PAG's part of this project for the last year.

She provided several photographs (shown here) from the November program when Kidz Kulture had the honor of a performance by Eric 'Many Winds' Herrera, playing many of his Native American flutes.

He also brought with him many Native American artifacts for the children and adults to enjoy. After the performance, the children, and their parents, enjoyed making dream catchers. Dream catchers are hung by the bed to catch and hold onto happy dreams, allowing bad ones to pass through.

Eric 'Many Winds' Herrera's heritage includes that of Blackfoot Indian, European Hispanic and German. As a musician, his talents span brass, string, percussion and flute instruments.

As a performing artist, the Native American flute is his most heart-felt talent and considershis musica responsibility and an honoring of his Native American heritage. Through his music, his intent is to tell the Native American story and to enrich the lives of those who hear it. "

For more information, please visit Eric's website at www.windsofthespirit.com/index.htm.

The upcoming program for Saturday December 15 (10:00 - 11:30 a.m.) will feature "Holiday Bells" by Denver Bronze. Denver Bronze is an auditioned community hand bell ensemble from the southern Denver metro area. Visit their website at www.denverbronze.org for information.

This is a wonderful opportunity for children and parents to participate together in an interesting and educational activity. For more information or to register, call 303.805.3263 or email kkuper@parkeronline.org.
