Blog Entry 159 of 270 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Have imagination, will travel

A two-month exhibit of fine art will open at Parker Mainstreet Center on Wednesday May 2 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The theme of the exhibit is "Far Away Places" and members of the Parker Artists Guild have drawn on both their imaginations and their travel experiences to bring excitement to the show.

Some examples are shown here.

Bill Luster lives in Elbert County, between Parker and Elizabeth. In real life he is a program manager for the Raytheon Company, but his other interests are hiking, whitewater canoeing, flyfishing and photography. Bill captured his unique image (Titled "YorkStation") of a train in York Station, England, while on a business trip earlier this year.

Maggie Heard works in fused glass. The fused glass plate shown here is called "Jupiter Rising." There can't be too many places as 'Far Away' as that.

Rick Hunckler is both an accomplished photographer and artist. His painting "Calle De Angela" draws on his travels in Cuzco, Peru.

Joe McDaniel captured this panoramic image of Land's End in January from the deck of a cruise ship anchored in the bay at Cabo San Lucas. It is simply titled "Lands End."

These are just four among dozens of works of art that will be on display and for sale at the Far Away Places Show opening on May 2. Members of the public are welcome and there is no admission.

The Mainstreet Gallery, at 19650 E. Mainstreet, Parker, is open to the public every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For confirmation of gallery hours call 303-805-7728.

Go to: www.parkerartistsguild.com for further information. This show is sponsored by the Parker Artists Guild and will be open until June 26th.
