Blog Entry 235 of 270 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Photographer overcomes urge to be humble
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 3/1/2008

I mostly write about other artists in the Parker community who are more talented than me. But now I am pushing humility aside and mentioning an accomplishment of my own.

A few months ago I submitted a photograph for consideration to be included in the 2008 Denver International Airport (DIA) Art Program exhibit called "Colorado, See the New West Like a Local." The art submitted was intended to show why we love Colorado and give out-of-state or first-time visitors an idea why we like it here.

Yesterday I received an eemail confirming my photograph had been reviewed by non other than "a panel of respected members of Denver's art and business community." It was one of 78 artworks chosen out of 107 finalists, from a total of 697 entries, to be displayed at DIA from early April until next January!

The worst that can happen is that millions of travelers will walk by it on the A Terminal bridge walkway. Maybe a few will even notice it. Hopefully no one will trip and fall into it and damage it.

Maybe a few will want to buy it. Now there's a novel idea. As the old saying goes; the only difference between a fine art photographer and a ten pound bag of potatoes is that a ten pound bag of potatoes can feed a family of four.

The image is printed on canvas and is gallery wrapped. It is called "Canyonland Pallet" and was taken in Colorado National Monument last summer.

It is actually on display now in the lobby of Parker Adventist Hospital, until the end of March, as part of a program set up between the Parker Artists Guild and Parker Adventist to provide quality artwork for the enjoyment of patients and staff.

So if anyone wants to see a few of Joe McDaniel's photographs they need not go all the way to the airport. They can be viewed as an outpatient - no need to be admitted. Fine artist David Reiter is also displaying his work in the lobby area on the second floor.
