Blog Entry 245 of 264 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

A visit to the Butterfly Pavilion
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 5/17/2008

I paid a visit to the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster recently to try out a new macro lens. My 105mm, F2.8, Sigma lens lets me get up to 12 inches or so of the little critters.

Here are several photos that I came away with. Unfortunately, despitea background in Entomology, I have trouble identifying most of the species there.

The Butterfly Pavilion is located at 6252 W. 104th Avenue. Although the tropical, climate controlled, conservatory is very popular, there are plenty of other attractions, including marine life exhibits and tarantulas to hold. It's a great place to take the kids. This was the first stand-alone non-profit insect zoo in the country when it was opened in July 1995.

It is open daily at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 4:15 p.m. School tours are offered from September through May, so the months of June, July and August are good as you can avoid large groups.

For information about The Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center go to www.butterflies.org.

I went to the Butterfly Pavillion about 10 years ago with my son's elementary school class. Cool place! Nice pics, Joe.
