Blog Entry 123 of 194 Dial 'T' for Tabitha
I'm a bicycling poet who lived in Parker for several years and worked at YourHub.com, covering Parker and Franktown for two years.

I am studying poetry at CSU in the Master of Fine Arts program ...

I hope you can post a comment or two and that you will enjoy my blogs.

... Thanks for the read.

Years before I turned 18, I often said that the first thing I would do on my 18th birthday was give blood. Advertisements from Bonfils would set me on a tirade about doing it and I still vividly remember the passion I felt one particular time my father happened to be beside me when I saw one such ad.

But guess who turns 27 in almost three months and never donated a pint of blood until yesterday?

Yes. Me.

And Alex, my boyfriend, has a Bonfils card and a Bonfils water bottle and has donatedeight pints of blood. I had been experiencing pint-giving envy for almost a year when I saw that the Parker Librarywas having another blood drive.

I signed up within the week.

The experience was fun (OK, more fun now that it's 16-odd hours later) and now I hope to donate eight pints of blood with Alex. Now we're both in the Bonfils system.

I am with Joe, I was disappointed when I was turned down due to malaria concerns. Here's the funny thing - if we stayed within Cancun city limits we were okay, but since we were an hour outside of Cancun, we couldn't. I was surprised to know that those little buggers were smart enought to stay out of the city limits!

This an extremely worthy thing to do and everyone should give blood routinely. I have donated over 100 pints but for most of the last ten years have faced restrictions due to travel overseas. If one travels to Belize, or Africa or the Far East and many other countries you can't give blood for 12 months due to risk of transmitting Malaria or HIV etc. I suspect Bonfils blood donations are severely limited by these guidelines.
