Blog Entry 125 of 266 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Speak loudly and carry a big stick

The Hidden River II (subdivision in Parker) neighborhood group known as "Sundowners" has met every Thursday evening for dinner since the summer of 2000 A.D. The escapades and adventures of this notorious gang of 16 are being diligently recorded in Parker annals. Basically they are a bunch of oldish people, between the ages of 60-ish and 78-ish, who are good friends and who enjoy the weekly challenge of full contact Chicken Foot or a raucous game of Yahtzee.

Each summer the Sundowners venture into the mountains for a get-away and some sightseeing, boating, or other physically non-challenging stuff. Several of these episodes have been reported on in YourHub.com. Now and again, being the adventurous group that they are, something completely different is attempted.

So it was that on February 7th, 2007, five couples, Dale and Sue Reiman, Denis and Jeanne Barrington, Mark and Judy Smith, Larry and Sherry Hartley and Joe and Jan McDaniel, arrived at Northglenn's Colorado Cue Club for the First Annual Sundowners Round Robin Eight Ball Pool Competition. Pool is that sport where one "speaks loudly and carries a big stick."

The standard of play wasn't worth writing home about. After almost two hours of intense, crowd-pleasing competition, the team of Dale and Sue edged out the better pairing of Joe and Jan when Jan sunk the eight ball in the corner pocket, while the white (or cue ball) fell, accidently, into another. So, on the basis of this one small technicality, Dale and Sue took home the coveted first prize voucher for a free medium sized pizza and a soft drink.

Chris McDaniel and the staff of Colorado Cue Club made the evening about as much fun as it could be. This is great place to have an evening of fun and experience some wonderful hospitality. The food is good and the bar service excellent.

Colorado Cue Club, one of the largest Pool Halls in the state, is located in Northglenn at 10657 Melody Drive. Phone: 303-450-7665 (POOL) and book your table or plan to join in one of their weekly competitions.

Joe, I plan to misspend my old age too. Does that seem selfish?

As a girl who misspent most of her youth in pool halls, I say, "Right on!!"

Bill: Its a couple of blocks north of 104th off of Melody Drive. The Mandarin Garden is right next door. Stop in sometime and say hi to my nephew Chris.

Joe, Is that over by Mandarin Garden, behind the Northglenn Marketplace? If so, our church is like (sorry) a block North.
