Normally I write about health care-related issues...but I saw something in yesterday's
Parker Chronicle Opinion page 7A written by a man named
Bill Blomberg (see
http://www.zwire.com/site/tab8.cfm?newsid=19430111&BRD=2713&PAG=461&dept_id=612561&rfi=60 as of 03/28/08. ) that I believe others in Parker and surrounding areas served by IREA (Intermountain Rural Electric Association) should know about.
After I finished reading Bill Blomberg's opinion piece, (referenced above), it seemed to me that something wasn't right.
Mr. Blomberg's tenor, tone, and writing style was more of a "rant" that didn't seem to me to be in relative proportion to the subject matter. That is, Mr. Blomberg appeared to be making a mountain out of a molehill and was buried in the minutiae of polling and statistical sampling while the overall results of the IREA poll he referenced probably did reflect the views correctly of IREA members. In short, my first instinct was that Bill Blomberg had an agenda in writing such an over-the-top opinion piece on such a minor topic. "Why get so worked-up over an IREA poll," I asked myself?
I decided to do some very basic internet research on Bill Blomberg having known absolutely nothing about him except what the Parker Chronicle said - that he is simply a long time resident of the Parker area. As it turns out, my suspicions and instincts were correct. Bill Blomberg is hardly just "a long time resident of the Parker area" (as the print edition said) or a "long time resident of Douglas County" (as the internet version said).
The most basic of searching reveals that Bill Blomberg is in fact an executive (Vice President or President depending on the age of the source) of GeoStar Solar (
www.geostarsolar.com) - a Parker company with a vested interest in IREA adopting alternative energy sources including solar and geothermal power. The "About Us" section on the website reiterates these and other goals. The "Contact Us" page includes an address for Bill Blomberg in Parker from which he evidently runs this business. How did I find this out? Because another document on the site lists Bill Blomberg as the author with the exact same address as the "Contact Us" page.
But that's still not all. Another simple search indicates that Bill Blomberg acts as an "administrator" and/or is an active member of the minority activist group IREA Voices (
www.ireavoices.org) - an organization that is constantly attacking and attempting to usurp and alter IREA board member makeup and overall IREA operations. The exact same opinion piece published by the Parker Chronicle is also posted at the IREA Voices website...as are numerous other postings by Bill Blomberg that one only has to read to see how Bill
really feels about IREA and its overall existence on this earth. As a matter of fact, reading just about
anything at
www.ireavoices.org makes it pretty clear where Bill Blomberg and his fellow IREA Voices fringe members are coming from with regards to their plans, agenda, and objectives as they relate to IREA.
As if that isn't enough, these same simple searches show other letters Bill Blomberg has written in the recent past to the Denver Post and other media outlets having to do w/ energy-related (and sometimes IREA-related) topics.
The
Parker Chronicle specifically and Colorado Community Newspapers in general do readers a grave disservice but not divulging relevant information such as this with regards to Opinion pieces and letters in their newspapers and that are posted on their websites. To only state as the print edition of the Parker Chronicle did that Bill Blomberg "is a longtime resident of the Parker area" fails to provide and disclose other relevant information regarding Mr. Blomberg that would allow other readers to understand that Mr. Blomberg has an identifiable and stated agenda with regards to IREA and for expanding the use of alternative energy sources by utility companies through which his company GeoStar Solar serves to benefit and profit from. In short, Bill Blomberg has a "dog in this hunt" and not revealing that to Parker Chronicle readers is wrong.
Finally, I want to disclose that I am an information technology consultant who specializes in health care-related systems and policy. I am just a
Parker Chronicle reader and IREA customer who "smelled a rat" and decided to do some looking around. I have no agenda with IREA except I want my computer and lights to turn on when I flip the switch.
Prior to doing this research, I had no idea who Bill Blomberg of Parker was. But I do now ... and so should readers here at the Parker YourHub and readers of the Parker Chronicle...especially when Mr. Blomberg is penning letters and opinions where the subject matter revolves around his business and IREA.
