Santa's Watching!
Contributed by: Stephanie Blake   on 11/30/2006

It isn't even officially December, but we are already waiting on Santa at our house. Everything revolves around Christmas these days because as Jett, says: "He is making his list." Austin made his wish list on Amazon.comin September and we've been telling Chase that "Santa's watching" since Halloween.

Our lopsided, fake tree has been up and decorated since the day after Thanksgiving and a tired-looking pine wreath, purchased from a Boy Scout, is on the front of the house. The entire village of Bedford covers the coffee table and the kids have already eaten a batch of sugar cookies and broken all the candy canes. We even saw Santa the other day at the mall and have our photo for the year! Come on. There weren't many people in line.

The homemade holiday cards have been addressed and mailed, and I've even finished all my Christmas shopping (including the stocking stuffers) and the wrapped gifts are hidden in the basement. The teacher gifts are bought. The Secret Santa names exchanged.

We have donated a gift to the Toys for Tots bin at Wal-Mart, put some money in the Salvation Army can and donated some cash to our appointed Adopt-A-Family. This weekend, the gingerbread house will stand proudly on the dining room table.

All we have to do before Santa comes down the chimney is attend these many holiday functions and activities:

December 2: Hammond Candies, on 58th and Washington, is having a Candy Cane Festival. Tour the factory for free, see Santa and the reindeer and get some fresh candy canes.

December 7: My mom's group is shopping together at Park Meadows and having dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. Hurray for Mommy time.

December 8: Every year we go to "Santa's house" outside of Parker to feed the reindeer, do a craft and have a story in a little farmhouse. My kids can't wait. It's a secret place, so I can't tell you where it is.

December 9: is the Parker Carriage Parade. I haven't been to this one, yet, but I am looking forward to it.

December 15: My husband and I will have a night out downtown to attend his company Christmas party at the Rock Bottom Brewery. It's a thrill a minute.

December 16: The kids are officially on Christmas Break. We will bake 10 kinds of cookies over the next week and take big plates around to the neighbors--whether they want them or not.

December 22 and 23: Watching A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation and Home Alone at home on the big screen.

December 24th The big night. The children will be whipped into a frenzy and dressed in new pajamas. We will have Christmas music, a fancy dinner and hang out with Grandma, while tracking Santa's sleigh on NORAD, all the time wishing the kids would go to bed so we can snuggle and look at the lights on the tree in peace.

What are you going to do with your kids?

Sweet! We made cookies with my grandmother every year, to create trays to share with neighbors. And she always bought my brother and I new pajamas, which we modelled on Christmas Eve night ... Are we related?
