Blog Entry 100 of 194 Dial 'T' for Tabitha
I'm a bicycling poet who lived in Parker for several years and worked at YourHub.com, covering Parker and Franktown for two years.

I am studying poetry at CSU in the Master of Fine Arts program ...

I hope you can post a comment or two and that you will enjoy my blogs.

Who posts something online without wanting a response?

... Thanks for the read.

Blogger's note: At the risk of sounding like an advertorial or coming off as a nanny, I want to share information that has helped me this past week and a half.

Most people might have a hard time imagining me as a cranky person. But off and on, over the course of the 18 months I have worked at YourHub.com, I sometimes had some awful headaches that left me challenged to be cheerful.

Those headaches made me angry and caused me to stay home instead of visit my friend from high school when he was visiting Denver this month! I had to get some contacts recently and I also decided I would have to buy some special computer-viewing lenses to get rid of my headaches.

But no special specs were needed, thanks to Dr. Vaske at the Wal-Mart Vision Center in Parker. I work at his store for five years and Dr. Vaske has been checking my eyes for almost just as long.

He told me that my symptoms weren't uncommon-- a headache starting around the eyes and lasting for hours, even after getting away from a computer monitor.

He advised me to follow the 20-20-20 rule: Your monitor needs to be 20-24 inches from where you sit, and every 20 minutes, you should spend about a minute looking at something 20 feet away.

I learned this last Saturday. Monday, my headache came a little later than usual and it wasn't nearly as bad. By Wednesday I had no headache, though I still felt my eyes strain at times. By Friday, I was wicked happy -- I became a human being again.

And I didn't have to get special lenses.

Do you have a useful tip? Post it here.

I LOVE Dr. Vaske. He was the one who recommended LASIK, so now I LOVE the 20/20 Institute!

Experiment. If you are staring at your monitor for a good stretch and you look at a plain white piece of paper, if the white piece of paper appears pink, you have stared into the radiation too long.

Great advice, Tabitha. But what about the 65 degree computer room I sometimes find myself in for hours at a time? ;-)
