Blog Entry 7 of 9 The Secret Step Two
Have you seen The Secret movie or read the book? What did you think? Have you visualized a specific goal? Has your visualization manifested? No? Are you having doubts about The Secret? Most of us who watched or read The Secret concentrated on the Law of Attraction and the visualization process. We missed, or flat out ignored, the "Rest of the (Secret) Story". For the Law of Attraction to work, you must be congruent in your conscious and subconscious minds. By that I mean, there can not be any conflict between your desires and beliefs. Quite often we will desire a specific outcome, but our subconscious mind will sabotage us if it doesn't agree or thinks that the vision isn't possible. For example, say you want financial abundance. You formulate affirmations and recite them daily. But, as you are saying them, you have this little uneasy feeling, like you don't REALLY mean them or deserve abundance. Why? You may have a subconscious belief that money is bad, that you aren't good enough, that you don't DESERVE money. With that unresolved conflict, there is no way you will ever succeed. You must change your subconscious negative programming. There are many alternative processes that work: Hypnosis, Energy Psychology, Neuro Linguistic Programming, and others. If you want to change your life, change your inner programming. I can help you make the changes you want to make. Call me at 303-884-3566, or email me at John@ommtech.com.

EFT and fear
Contributed by: John Garrett   on 6/19/2008

Fear is an interesting emotion. The dictionary defines it as, among other things: "An agitated feeling aroused by awareness of actual or threatening danger, trouble, etc."

Fear is not all bad. A healthy fear keeps a person from jumping off a building, diving into an empty pool, or not touching a hot stove. The fear of getting hurt helps us to stay alive.

An overwhelming or irrational fear, however, can paralyze us to the point that we do nothing to get out of the perceived danger. We get so afraid that we CAN'T move.

There may be a safe haven close by, but the fear keeps us immobile. That is because the emotional half of our brains takes over, and the logical half can't break through to allow us to evaluate the situation and then take the appropriate action.

It is the "deer in the headlights" paralysis. We see the threat, but can't do anything about it, or even get out of the way.

Because fear is a highly charged emotional state, it can be a very powerful block to performance. Sometimes, seeing someone else take an action can jolt the system into movement.

You might see that kind of behavior at dramatic accident scenes. There will be a crowd watching the incident, but until one person makes a move to help, the crowd hesitates.

Once that one person acts, however, then others follow. It may be fear of getting involved, fear of getting hurt, fear of getting sued if what you do isn't perfect, or just not knowing clearly what to do.

Military and law enforcement organizations know about fear. They train their personnel in scenarios of danger, giving them tactics to get themselves into a safe place or react so powerfully to a threat that the enemy gets startled into inaction or runs away.

They drill in those tactics so that they become second nature. Many times, in debriefings, the people involved will state that they didn't even think about the danger, they just reacted the way they were trained.

It is important to understand that not every person who has been trained will act. Some will not. It isn't that their training was faulty or that they are cowards, it just means that something in their brains didn't connect the training to the actual event.

It may be that the person never really thought that an incident would occur, or they got caught off guard. And, quite often, what people train for doesn't match what they experience. It is possible that they harbor a belief that they will not survive an incident, or they may suffer a sensory overload.

There are many tools available to people to help them overcome, or at least work through the fear. One process is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

EFT is an energy psychology technique where the individual taps energy meridian points while thinking of an upset. When we experience a physical or mental trauma, our systems react in various ways.

Sometimes, we develop a "short circuit" in our energy pathways. One way to clear the pathway is to stimulate it by tapping a meridian point while concentrating on the upset. However, this process is usually done after the incident, and is very effective.

So, what can one do in the moment? When you feel the onset of a fear or anxious feeling, simply start tapping the inside of your wrist and take a few deep breaths. This will help calm you and you can start thinking clearly.

I have used this technique many times with anxious and even hysterical people, and every time, they calmed down within seconds and were then able to communicate and were in control of their emotions enough to safely drive or otherwise function.

The next time you feel yourself getting upset, afraid or anxious, just tap the inside of your wrist and experience the relaxation. You might be surprised how powerful this simple technique is at releasing the intensity of the emotions of the moment.
