Editor's note: I'm searching for the best hamburger in Douglas County. If you have any suggestions, please e-mail them to me at
kirchmerj@yourhub.com
or simply leave a comment at the end of this blog.
It didn't take me long to find what I was looking for on the menu of the
Warhorse Inn
, 19420 E. Mainstreet, a cultural mainstay in the town of Parker.
"Parker's Best Burger," an all-natural beef patty topped with sauteed mushrooms, bacon and swiss cheese served on a toasted Kaiser roll -- a somewhat disappointing choice of toppings considering it's supposed to be the best burger in town -- was the first item I saw on the menu.
Any burger that claims its the best must be ordered immediately without regard for the other entrees and sandwiches -- if they say its the best, then I must try it (although this is probably somewhat misleading considering there are far better selections on the menu, including their variety of steaks, pastas and fish).
But I'm a burger guy so I did what burger guys do, which is order it -- I'm also kind of cheap, so burgers naturally are the most tempting selections due to their oh so fair price.
I was pretty pleased when I received my order. The burger was cooked to temp (medium, of course), the bacon strips were crispy and the bun was nicely toasted (I send back untoasted buns on principle).
And even though I normally don't use garnish items, I have to note that the tomato and lettuce was fresh and the pickles were juicy and plump. The french fries, however, were merely passable and the burger didn't have nearly enough mushrooms to score a knockout review.
Jennifer, my girlfriend and companion on many a restaurant meal, was pleased with her choice as well, french dip witha side of vegetables.
"I liked the vegetables," she said. "And they tasted fresh."
Parker's Best Burger ran me $7.95. The final bill came out to $16.95 (we both ordered water).
I'm not sure if it was Parker's best burger but it was pretty darn good. I would recommend but we'll see if it makes the final cut for Douglas County's best hamburger.

Over and over I have been told the best burger in the county can be found at Bud's in Sedalia. I cannot vouch for the claim. The place looks very dive-ish, but typically that is part of the allure in "best of" searches.

I'm looking forward to your future reviews! Haven't been to the Warhorse in a while, but I always loved the beef burrito! California Cafe in Park Meadows has great sweet potato fries! (crispy too) and an incredible burger--go for lunch--it's cheaper.

You've got to try Cheeburger Cheeburger over off of Twenty Mile in Parker by the new Super Target. They make a fantastic burger as well!

I would definitely try this burger, however, I would order it sans tomato and mushrooms. Your next destination should be the Rockyard American Grill in Castle Rock. Perhaps their burgers would be up to the test.

Ha ha ha! Cool concept ... searching for the best burger in Douglas County. I think the best burger in Douglas County is cooked by my father in Parker, but they don't take reservations at my parents' house. My family's had a number of meals at the Warhorse. A great place.

When I was a youth, I had many a burger at The Warhorse Inn. I always found them appealing and succulent. I haven't been there in years, so I can't really agree or disagree with your review. I will say that french fries are an important part of the meal. If they're not crispy and seasoned just right, my opinion of the burger and fries combo automatically is tarnished. Have you ever heard of Fuddruckers? It's not in Douglas County, but their burgers are unsurpassed. Not only do they toast the buns, they generously slather on the best imitation butter you've ever had.
