I feel like Chili Blanco tonight...

Mmmm mmmm mmmmm! Before my seven years living and working in Parker, I was born and brought up in Grand Junction, Colo.

I must have still been living there when my mother's cousin Marta introduced the family to Chili Blanco, a recipe for a chicken broth-and white Northern bean-based chili that she treated us to one night.

It smelled amazing.

And she encouraged us to eat it with a tortilla, per the recipe. That... was rather odd for me to get my head around. Chili should be eaten with cornbread... right?

Not Chili Blanco, which became a family speciality since its debut some 8 or more years ago.

You'll find the recipe in the Creme de Colorado Cookbook, probably on page 62 if it's the same edition I use.

And why blog about Chili Blanco? Well, I made it for the second time last Saturday and this morning I talked to my boyfriend about today's plans.

"Hopfully I'll be going down to Parker today," I said.

He told me he was going in to work at 8 p.m.

That made me think that stretching out my evening by visiting my parents and brother in Parker was a fine concept.

Then he said he was planning to have some of the leftover Chili Blanco for dinner.

So, dinner with the parents? Or leftover Chili Blanco? These are such difficult decisions...
