Blog Entry 36 of 270 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Dangerous Animals and Travel Contests
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 7/19/2006

By simply uploading a few photos and a story about my recent travels I am automatically registered to win a Family Fun 4-Pack from Southwest Airlines?
GET OUT!

This exciting sweepstakes kicked off June 29th, 2006, and ends August 9, 2006. Each winner will receive 4 round trip, complimentary, airline tickets to any destination that Southwest Airlines flies. REALLY? By "each winner" we must assume there can be more than one winner? Does that mean I could actually win more than once? Can I actually win a 6-pack?

I recall a Denver radio talk show back in the 80s that had a competition on April 1st. First prize was an all-inclusive round trip air ticket to Greeley. Second prize was two all-inclusive round trip plane tickets to Greeley. What this humorous contest revealed was that most listeners had no idea where Greeley was. I knew where Greeley was back then but was still bitterly disappointed at not winning that contest. Now I have a chance to try again. Is this a land of opportunity or what?

For residents of Parker, and Hidden River especially, this is a great time to get away. We just received the following news from Sara Walla, Town of Parker Community Affairs Coordinator;

" Parker Police responded to a call July 18 at approximately 10:30 p.m. regarding a cougar sighting in the Hidden River housing district in Parker. The cougar appears to be aggressive. It has been seen hunting small pets in the area and has even approached a residence. The town is urging all residents to use caution when on the trails and open space, and to be aware of the surroundings at all times. Children should especially be made aware of the danger." This alert came via YourHub.com - of course.

I hope this animal may be able to take care of a few of the incessantly barking dogs in the area before the Colorado Division of Wildlife people capture it, especially the little dog two doors down that yaps every morning at 6 a.m. I am of course fully qualified to deal with a cougar and have written a YourHub.com story previously detailing the steps one needs to take to avoid being eaten by cougars. (Wear a little bell around the neck and carry pepper spray - see previous story "Tourist Mountain Lion Warning" posted 4/24/06 for details.)

It is clearly dangerous to stay here. Apart from the cougar menace we have to suffer the Global Warming related current heat wave. A getaway to San Diego or Orlando would be just the thing to relieve my stress. Despite having already written extensively about my recent travels I cannot afford to rest on my laurels. Winning takes persistance. So, I may write about my trip to the Toyota Dealer this morning to have my wife's car serviced. I plan to go to Wal-Mart before the weekend and will take my camera and record the whole thing. You would be surprised at the interesting things you can see in the Wal-Mart parking lot. But my point is, the more we write the better our odds are of winning that 4-pack. Right?

It might help to mention that I think Southwest Airlines is not only the most outstanding air carrier in North America but in the entire world. Their service, their on-time performance, their peanuts, just everything about them is fantastic. Their more exotic destinations (Corpus Christie, Tulsa, Boise - to name a few) add to their immense appeal for those wanting to enter this contest. I should mention that if I am lucky enough to win, I would write many stories with incredible photographs, extolling the benefits of traveling with Southwest. I also strongly urge everyone who reads this (thanks mom, dad) to go to the Southwest website and download DING!

I am Southwest's number one fan. For now.

I vote for Joe. If he goes on another trip he will stop making us all look bad by posting 12 times a day. Hey, hey, just kidding, Joe! (Pssst...Bill, we can vote, can't we?)
