Blog Entry 10 of 78 BulldogBlog
This was in desperate need of an update. So, here we go! Hey there, readers! I'm Meagan Savage, a 2006 Chaparral High School graduate. I'm currently a freshman at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa (Go Bulldogs!!!). I'm double majoring in magazine journalism in English and I'm having a lot of fun doing it. I started using YourHub.com at the beginning of the summer and I've pretty much been hooked ever since. I also have a photography blog that (oops) I haven't updated in a while, but if you'd like to see those photos it's called the Shutterbug blog. I love to take pictures and I'm a photographer for the campus paper the Times Delphic (check out my work at www.timesdelphic.com) and for DrakeMag Associated Collegiate Press' number one student publication in the country. I'm not on as often as I'd like to be since college is pretty much a whole new world compared to high school, but every now and then I'll have some down time and my blogs will come in spurts before some less hub-active time. So, check it out, tell me what to think and thanks for stopping by :) :) By the way, you can Check me out on Brendan's List

This Fourth of July was supposed to be particularly exciting; I have a camera with a fireworks setting on it... you know, it's, like, special for fireworks! The guy who sold me the camera was giving me a crash course on how to use it and told me that when I use this particular setting, that a tripod is a MUST.

So, I rustled up the tripod from the office and started playing with the knobs and screws and got the hang of it as the sun began to set. Wait! The sun couldn't have been setting at five o'clock!!! The clouds were moving in. i stood at my parents' bedroom window watching the storm come through, obliterating all hopes of amazing fireworks shots. I was crushed.

An hour later, not all hope was lost. It looked like the clouds were all talk and no action, so we hopped in the car and headed to The Pinery to catch some of those fireworks! Well, a mass exodus of cars met us half-way there going the opposite direction. There was no doubt they were coming from the canceled show (which, as it turns out, wasn't cancelled at all... silly us for assuming!). Disapointed and mildy relieved that we wouldn't have to brave the storm with our expensive equipment, my family drove home.

The holiday wasn't completely useless, however; I still got some pretty cool shots of the neighbors shooting off some sparklers and stuff.

Maybe we'll catch the show next year....

Despite the rainy weather, Parker's 4th of July Let Freedom Sing fireworks actually did go on as planned. The dark clouds sent some people back to their cars, but those who braved the weather were treated to a spectacular fireworks show. The dark clouds actually enabled us to start the fireworks show a bit early and we were able to get people back to their cars before the torrential downpour started. The Let Freedom Sing activities earlier in the day were blessed with sunny, warm weather and fortunately, the clouds stayed away until later in the evening. I'm sorry you missed the event and hope you will attend next year. Elise Penington Town of Parker Community Affairs Manager
