Blog Entry 68 of 78 BulldogBlog
This was in desperate need of an update. So, here we go! Hey there, readers! I'm Meagan Savage, a 2006 Chaparral High School graduate. I'm currently a freshman at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa (Go Bulldogs!!!). I'm double majoring in magazine journalism in English and I'm having a lot of fun doing it. I started using YourHub.com at the beginning of the summer and I've pretty much been hooked ever since. I also have a photography blog that (oops) I haven't updated in a while, but if you'd like to see those photos it's called the Shutterbug blog. I love to take pictures and I'm a photographer for the campus paper the Times Delphic (check out my work at www.timesdelphic.com) and for DrakeMag Associated Collegiate Press' number one student publication in the country. I'm not on as often as I'd like to be since college is pretty much a whole new world compared to high school, but every now and then I'll have some down time and my blogs will come in spurts before some less hub-active time. So, check it out, tell me what to think and thanks for stopping by :) :) By the way, you can Check me out on Brendan's List

To my Mother
Contributed by: Meagan Savage   on 4/30/2007

Hi, Mommy! It's me, Meagan!

I know Mothers' Day is coming up an I've been thinking furiously about gifts to give you. All the material gifts I come up with seem so impersonal and don't even come close to sending the message I'm looking to send. A teddy bear holding a heart that says "I Love You" just won't do because even the words "I Love You" will not suffice. And I can't afford a big, extravagant gift of any sort, but I know you would find something like that excessive.

I don't have a lot to give you, Mommy. But, there is one thing I have an abundance of: words. I only hope I can pick just the right ones.

This was my first year away from home, and while I've become a stronger, more confident, more independent person, it was so hard to be away from you. We chat dozens of times a day and nothing starts my morning like that "Good Morning!" e mail from you. But e mails and phone calls cannot even come close to that feeling of safety I have when you hug me or the warmth of your smile when you laugh. I love it here, but I miss you. And I need you to know that even when I'm far away, you're a part of me. Because you are.

I love you, Mommy. And I love the fact that I can tell you anything. And I love that I know you will stand by me if I get into trouble. I love that I can depend on you. I love your selflessness. And your compassion. And your strength. And I need to tell you how easy it is to love you. Because it is.

When I was sick, you came to me. And it wasn't easy. When I needed you, you were there. You support me in all my pursuits, even when they change from day to day. Every time I fall, you pick me up, dust me off, and throw me back into the world. You dry my tears and ease my anxieties. And I need you to know how very much I appreciate you. Because I do.

You're creative and passionate. And I love the way you do things. And look at things. And solve problems. You simplify things that seem so complicated. You always keep your sense of humor about you. Even in the most stressful situations. And I need you to know that you inspire me. Because you do.

I need you to know how much I love being your daughter. Because I do.

I need you to know how proud I am that you're my mom. Because I am.

I need you to know that you're my best friend. Because you are.

And finally I need you to know that you are the perfect mother. Because... Well, I've already given a million reasons why.

I love you, Mommy and can't wait to spend time with you and the family together this summer. Happy Mothers' Day!
