During the 1950's I enjoyed Beatles music. For some reason, one of my favorite Lennon/McCartney hits at the time was "When I'm Sixty Four." It seemed far-fetched to me at the time that I would ever reach that milestone.
Having recently turned 64 I have updated the lyrics to suit my real-life situation. Anyone can take these lyrics and test them in the shower. So, with apologies to John Lennon, Paul McCartney and millions of fans who are still alive, I dedicate this ditty to all who have reached the ripe age of 64.
Note: Must be sung to the tune of "When I'm Sixty Four." Optimum time to sing is when no one else is home.
Since I am older missing more hair
many years from then
I'm thrilled that you're still sending me those valentines
birthday greetings, bottles of wine?
I'm never out 'til quarter 'til three
So you can't lock the door
Do you still need me, should you still feed me
now I'm sixty-four?
You're much older too
and if you say the word
I will stay with you.
You sent me a postcard, dropped me a line
stating point of view
Telling me precisely what you meant to say
Yours sincerely, pining away
Gave me your answer, filled in a form
Mine for evermore
I know you still need me, but should you still feed me
Now I'm sixty-four?
