So lately this new "fad" has come out called emo or "emotional". It started out as people who were sad or depressed that expressed themselves through how they looked with tight clothes and eyeliner.
Now, it is a fashion style.
You can now see tons of guys at my school , Ponderosa, who sport the emo style.
I'm talking girl jeans, eyeliner, and tight black shirts. I have nothing against the ones who are really sad and truly feel that how they dress reflects them.
The ones I do have a problem with however, are the ones doing it for attention. I think its really sad and they must be extremely desperate. While on this topic, emos also get a bad rep from pretty much everyone else at our school.
They all say "well if he's emo, he must cut".
I think its retarded and they should get to meet the person before they start talking. Some people are so stereotypical and have no respect for others.
It just makes me so mad how immature some high schoolers can be!

Not true about the showing how they felt through clothes. Emo is a style of emotional music and really has almost nothing to do with being sad. People are stupid like that. >>They all say "well if he's emo, he must cut". I think its retarded and they should get to meet the person before they start talking. Some people are so stereotypical and have no respect for others. I agree with that though!

Recently one of our columnists for our school paper (in Fort Collins)making fun of the "emo" style. I completely agree with you...some of the sweetest, nicest people I know are so called "emo" and its frustrating when people say things like "they're emo, they must cut," or, "they're so depressing!" when they don't even know them! Thanks for posting, it needs to be heard. ~Megan~

You might be interested to know "emo" dates back to the late 80s and early 90s. It came out of hardcore punk when some bands like Rites of Spring began putting a more personal angle to their songs. The music got called "emo," and over the past 15 or so years, what was a music kind of mutated into a fashion. As to the music, the kind of stuff called "emo" these days is far and away different from the origins. Check out bands like Rites of Spring, Orchid and Sunny Day Real Estate - their sounds are all very different from each other and from what we call emo now.

Welcome to YourHub.com, Ariana. I never knew about this phenomenon before reading your blog. I hope you'll write more about everything you learn, see, think and do. I know high school isn't easy for some-- I loved high school, and I loved dressing different-- like a hippie-- perhaps dressing "emo" makes some students feel better? What do you think?
