Blog Entry 111 of 169 Robin's Just Saying...
Yeah, it's true, I'm a Parker resident. Is there a support group? NO?! Then this blog will have to do. I've lived here just long enough to raise my kids to a point very close to independence, but I realize that in some resident's books, I'm a newbie. Seen changes? Me too. Love/Hate relationship with growth? I'm so there. Long ago in a place far, far away (Pre-Big Box Parker--P.B.B.P.) I escaped the smog of the big city and moved here. Over time I lost touch with many friends who considered a trip to Parker as exciting-and long--as an excursion to Kansas. (Your moving where?) These days, we're a charming little burg, close-in to the big city. We've got Parker Days, Carriage Parades, and that logo with the lights from mainstreet (guess we can't change those now, right?). Yes, it's a wonderful place to live, but it doesn't feel like Kansas anymore, does it Toto? My musings will cover this topic, naturally--this wacky town can practically write a gal's column for her! But I have a habit of digressing...so I may talk about kids, politics, movies, food, my dogs, or the latest version of the Main St. Round-A-Bout (It's like living in a carnival!!). Check in now and then to see what's up. And let me know what you think!! I LOVE feedback...but be nice. I may be opinionated, but my mother taught me good manners.

Bush Bucks!
Contributed by: Robin Nolet   on 2/2/2008

I don't know about you, but I'm just tickled with President Bush's plan to send us all rebate checks, or, as I've come to think of them, "Bush Bucks".

While I'm not sure that this $150 billion dollar relief plan (give or take a billion) is the best use of our tax dollars, I suppose if our money is going to go to pork-barrel projects, we might as well be the little piggies who get it.

Better now than later, since once McCain is President (see how confident I appear?) our little dividends would likely be the first fat to be trimmed. And really, it would probably be for the best, since economists don't particularly think much of the plan to begin with.

After all, word is that while the plan is to stimulate the economy, your average check recipient is more likely to use it to pay off debt than to buy a new 60 inch plasma TV. Well, actually, word is that people are already doing just that - buying the TV, that is - just in time for the Super Bowl, with the comfortable knowledge that the good old boys in Washington will send the money to pay off their Best Buy card long before the 12-months-free interest comes due.

Yes, Americans have so much faith in government that they are already spending the "Bush Bucks" before the plan is actually passed. And speaking of that plan, it still seems a little unclear exactly who will be getting what.

As originally conceived, it was $800 per person and $1,600 per couple. Then the House settled on $600 per person/$1,200 per couple. Now I'm reading that the Senate is thinking $500/person and $1,000/couple.

While it's true I'm really more of a lower taxes/free market kind of gal, I was already dreaming of paying off some bills. Naturally, I liked the inflated numbers better than the receding ones. Until the final numbers come in, however, sports fans might be safer with the 40-inch tube.

I prefer the term "Bushdoggle" instead of Boondoggle. This is just plain bad economic policy. But send my check anyway. Do we have to pay tax on our rebates? I think I will save my rebate to finance carbon credits when the new administration comes in.
