Blog Entry 47 of 265 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Intra-hub competition and new blog fashions
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 8/29/2006

At the behest of YourHub.com's noted usurper, John Brandstetter, I posted a few stories and blogs on the Lone Tree Hub recently. Karin Malchow, a veritable giant (not literally of course) among the Blogging Fellowship, was Lone Tree's sole blogger and I hoped to be there for her when the going got tough. I should note that Karin graciously accepted me into the Lone Tree community. This will explain to curious analysts why the number of bloggers in Lone Tree rose by 50% overnight from 1 to 2. A stunning increase.

I have never paid attention to polling data, but I have been interested (as I am certain many readers are) in comparing readership statisics between my home turf of Parker and this new territory of Lone Tree. A careful analysis of recent story and blog postings reveals some fascinating information. Note: I was careful to use commonly accepted scientific standards of analysis.

1. On August 11th I posted a blog about "A most interesting school reunion." To date this has been viewed by 261 Lone Tree readers and 260 Parker readers - a statistical dead heat. Astonishingly my decision to post this blog to Lone Tree has doubled my readership. I can't thank my fans enough.

2. August 24th: I felt it important to share my experiences in dealing with the consequences of fame and posted a story about this very important subject to both hubs. Here Parker readers beat the Lone Tree crowd by 12%. (41 views to 32). Perhaps Parker area residents are having more trouble handling fame than their counterparts, or maybe the Lone Tree guys are just better adjusted.

3. As recently as 28th August I posted a short story about a weird road sign I had seen near Los Alamos, New Mexico. As of this morning, 24 hours later, Parker readers are beating up on Lone Tree by a count of 37 to 22, a margin of 25.42374%. Not a very flattering result for our neighbors to the west. It is too early however to expect a significant statistical trend.

Of course one should not read too much into statistics. What I have gleaned from these figures however is that Lone Tree residents are just as intelligent and sophisticated as their Parker friends. I have not, even for one scintilla of a second, regretted my foray into Lone Tree and I look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with them folks. Thank you.

My recent small steps toward eventual YourHub.com Hall of Famedom brought me up from total obscurity to relative obscurity, and gave me new insights into the importance of style. It is time, I have decided, to change my image. Accordingly I have considered several new styles of headgear that will move YourHub.com users to the next level in the world of fashion and permit them to reach new blogging heights.

Pictured here are a few examples. The model is me. No one else would accept the job. Go figure.

Photo #1: A revolutionary new double sided cap. Offers terrific protection for the ears against harmful UV rays. Also adds a sort of goofy quirkiness favored by the John Brandstetters and Steve Schulzs of the world. An added plus is that it will confuse predators as to which direction you actually intend to run.

Photo # 2: The reverse cap is not new. Few people realize however the advantage of being able to display one's forehead tattoo. This brings to mind a Rob Guthrie'ish style.

Photo #3: The new impact resistant headgear offers multiple functionality. It protects against being dropped on one's head, against severe blows by blunt objects and also will keep the head from swelling excessively when overwhelmed by the fame that almost certainly comes to each of us eventually. Note: Place on head before swelling begins.

Well, there you have it. You can now combine blogging with a new fashion consciousness. Your new feeling of self esteem will be reflected in your writing.

I have personally tried each of these products and can honestly say that several months ago, before these new fashions became available, I was a mere shadow of my present self.

I'm glad you explained the two-billed cap. (I was afraid this was a new look for the Crips.) For the record, I DO have a forehead tattoo. It reads, "This side up" (My first choice was "I'm with Stupid" but that boded well for neither walking with my wife nor the inevitable time spent alone.

Outstanding, Joe. But where can we buy our YourHub.com impact resistant headgear? That might be handy to have on in the newsroom as deadline closes in ...
