I'm a bicycling poet who lived in Parker for several years and worked at YourHub.com, covering Parker and Franktown for two years.

I am studying poetry at CSU in the Master of Fine Arts program ...

I hope you can post a comment or two and that you will enjoy my blogs.

Who posts something online without wanting a response?

Blogging about a blogging presentation
Contributed by: Tabitha Dial, YourHub.com   on 10/2/2006

Hello again, dear readers!

I've been asked to contribute to a cyber seminar at the Denver Woman's Press Clubthis weekend. As I prepare for it, I've decided I'll call on the talented, tech-savy populace that is YourHub.com.

Here are some questions I've been given-- suggestions, if you will, on where I can steer my presentation. I'd love it if youwould post comments in the comment box below with any of your responses:

Would you have a list of popular blogs you could share? Can one locate blogs in any subject through Google or other search engines? Any advice on how to find blogs? I imagine a writer could meet interesting folk with unique interests who are good contacts for articles. I also think blogs may background one in a subject.

How does one set up a blog?

Does blogging lead to publication? To paid work for writers? Is blogging a way to change public opinion? To support political viewpoints and affect balloting?

And the big question: What are benefits of blogging to a writer?

Thanks for the read.

The benefits of blogging to a writer? You keep writing because you have an audience. You get feedback from others. You think harder about what you write, how you present yourself. Your name pops up in search engines. Blogs are great networking tools. Blogs make you research subjects you want to write about (even if only briefly). And thanks, everyone, for your input. The presentation went very well!

I think blogging forces you to be more creative, especially if you hold yourself to a certain number of posts per week. I try to be somewhere in the two to three per week range, depending on work schedule time, etc. I was afraid back around 10 or 11 posts I'd run out of things to write about, and now here I am at 52. Of course, if guys just keep doing stupid things with, or to, their penises, I will be set for eternity. And yes, I am planning on being published. I think the blogging will definitely help as it keeps me on a schedule of writing consistently.

I would recommend telling them to read my blog. It is awesome. As for finding blogs, there is no cut and dried method. Most veterans realize the value of word of mouth, and know that to get readers you have to read. Co comment and make sure to always link to your own blog in the comment. Shameless self promotion, but it's the best method I know.

Hmmm, on the question of a list of cool blogs, other than the obvious (YourHub), here is an interesting one: http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ People upload their secrets on postcards. Example: "The mailman leaves some of your mail at my house every day...when you start being a nice neighbor I might start giving it to you". Or: "I steal out of charity bins and sell the clothes off on eBay." Blogging gets a writer doing what is most important to a writer: WRITING.
