DEMTA(Douglas Elbert Music Teachers Association)
DEMTA is a group of independent and school music teachers who organized in August of 1994 and work together to provide teacher support and development as well as student enrichment and community entertainment. Member teachers work in Parker, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Elizabeth, Littleton, Centennial, and Aurora. Membership in DEMTA benefits students by providing many enrichment and performance opportunities to nurture musical growth. We organize numerous student recitals throughout the school year.
Each spring, we sponsor a Music Festival, complete with high-quality adjudication, theory examinations, and sight reading tests. The top performers from the many categories are selected to perform in one of the four Honors Concerts. There are over 300 students who participate each year. DEMTA also provides scholarships to qualified students for use at summer music camps and other music enrichment programs.
Membership is open to all independent music teachers (piano, keyboard, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and vocal), as well as band, orchestra, choral, and classroom music teachers in the Douglas and Elbert County school districts. Benefits of membership include monthly newsletters, use of the music lending library, use our new 7-foot Mason & Hamlin grand piano for private recitals, teacher enrichment programs, as well as the pleasure and support of fellow music teachers. We also maintain a list of teachers who are accepting new students and provide a free referral service to the community.
