About 280 people hopped on their bikes to participate in the town of Parker's Bike To Work Day on June 24, the largest turnout in the event's history, said Julie Wassell, special events and fundraising coordinator for the town.
"We were a little worried because of all the rain the night before," Wassell said. The Cherry Creek Trail was flooded in places due to the downpour, she said. "But people biked through it!"
Some participants biked 25 or 30 miles to their work, according to Wassell.
Parker's breakfast station, located on the Cherry Creek Trail under the E-470 overpass, offered cyclists as chance in fuel up on bagels, juice, granola bars and other goodies.
New this year was bike parking.
"I worked with the Public Works department to create bike racks out of poles and saw horses so the riders had a place to secure their bikes," Wassell said. "The new bike racks were a huge hit, and I plan to use them at future town events as well."
The Denver Regional Council of Governments has promoted Bike To Work Day since 1995 as a way to spread the word about bicycle commuting.
