Candidate Q & A: Trace Kaker

Trace Kaker is running for Parker town council and answered a questionnaire for YourHub.com. To read all of the candidate questionnaires, click here.

Name: Trace L. Kaker

Seat you are seeking: Parker Town Council

Age:43

Family:Husband (Brad); 3 boys (Cody-17, Alec-11 and John-10)

Occupation:Attorney

Hometown: Platte Center, Nebraska

Favorite local place to hang out:I am really a homebody and like being there but when I do go out it is usually for a steak(one of my favorite foods) someplace like Texas Roadhouse or Saltgrass. If I want to have alone time I'll shop at Kohls (my boys never volunteer to join me when shopping for girl clothes) or walk the great trails in Parker.

What do you like most about living here?:I love being a small town with a lot of amenities. There are many places to go in Parker where you see lots of people you know but yet can get most of the things you need right here in Town.

Interests & hobbies:Camping, reading, puzzles

Favorite TV show: I do not watch TV much except for news, when I do I prefer an old movie.

People who inspired you (and how): My history teacher in high school who told me never let anyone keep you down because you are a women. You can do anything. Also, the drafters of the constitution who new how to write a very lasting governing document.

How you have contributed to the community: I have served on council for 6 years and I have served in volunteer positions with the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, sports teams and at school. My service on Council helped to bring Costco, get Bar Triple C Park enhanced, improve our trails, get road connections to I-25 and 470, maintain a conservative fiscal policy for the town while being able to provide amenities such as the field house, get the school district to build a stadium for Parker High Schools, and acquire open space.

What are the biggest issues facingyour constituency now: I believe Parker needs a good job base. We have retail outlets to serve our community but we need goods jobs in our community. We need to move our economic development focus from retail to jobs. Parker is in a good place financially and we need to make sure we maintain that. By having more jobs along the 470 corridor we can have more of a stable property tax base rather than relying on sales tax.

One of the other issues I feel the town needs to focus on is the elderly and special needs populations. We must focus on their needs one of which is transportation around town. We have limited bus service, no taxi service to speak of and the resources for vans etc. are at their limits.
