Candidate Q&A: Franceen Thompson

Franceen Thompson is running for Parker town council and answered a questionnaire for YourHub.com. To read all of the candidate questionnaires, click here.

Name: Franceen Thompson

Seat you are seeking: Parker Town Council

Age: 37

Family: Husband:Tim Thompson; Son: David (10); Daughter: Alison (8)

Occupation: Educated Homemaker; I graduated from Lubbock Christian University in 1993 with B.S. Finance and later earned my MBA from Texas Tech University.

Hometown: Parker

Favorite local place to hang out: Parker Library: which is why I fully support Douglas County's Say Yes to Libraries campaign and support 5a.

What do you like most about living here? I like the people and small town feel of Parker.

Interests & hobbies: I enjoy reading and spending time with family & friends.

Favorite TV show: Law & Order Criminal Intent

Favorite Web site: www.foxnews.com

People who inspired you (and how): My granddad, John Sandoval (He is 87 years old and is hard to keep up with.) My mother (She is a great daily Bible reader and a faithful prayer warrior. She is finishing her 10 th consecutive year of reading through her Bible.) My husband and children (They inspire me to the best I can be.)

How you have contributed to the community: I have spent many hours volunteering in my children's school. I have also served for 3 years as Treasurer for our parent/teacher organization. I also serve as the treasurer for Cub Scout Pack 469.

What are the biggest issues facing your constituency now: I see the fiscal growth, quality of life, and the Parker economy as the keys to maintaining Parker's status at the top of Colorado communities.

My vision for Parker over the next several years involves Parker growing at a fiscally, sustainable rate balanced by ecological conservation. Current and developing neighborhoods need to be balanced with open spaces and recreation. I believe developing every available lot of Parker is not in our best interest. Keeping opens spaces and recreation help set a healthy tone for quality of life.

I see the new Parker police station project the most significant project the town in currently facing. Placing the Police station project as a top priority is the cornerstone to maintaining the current low crime rate which again leads to greater quality of life. Latest statistics at Homesurfer.com lists Parker as the second best town in Colorado to live in. It is also important Parker's small businesses are allowed to thrive as the daytime economy continues to grow.

The town of Parker needs to be an easy place to own and operate a business. I also hope to see a new Library in Parker to replace the current undersized library. Above all, we need to better utilize our greatest asset: the citizens of Parker. As a whole, Parker citizens have made and will continue to make Parker great. Town council needs to stay in contact with the community to ensure the citizens' will as a whole is carried out.
