Chaparral High School's Elite Jazz Choir has the opportunity to share their passion for music and their love of performing by traveling to their sister school in Xinjin, Sichuan, China. The Parker Chick-fil-A wants to makecertain their trip is a success.
Sixteen members of the Chaparral High School Jazz Choir, their Director, Mr.
Jerry Vander Does and Chaparral's Chinese language teacher Ms. Catherine
Channel, will travel to China in March, 2007 to perform in a variety of venues. In order to provide funds for their trip, the group of sixteen will be selling Chick-fil-A Cow Calendars to area residents, and will be performing in-store several times during the month of December. Their first Chick-fil-A performance will be Nov. 27 at 5:00 p.m.
While in China, the Jazz Choir will be hosted by Xinjin Middle/High School, Sichuan University, the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, and the Chengdu Education Bureau. Students will have an opportunity to tour Beijing, the Great Wall, the Panda Breeding and Research Center, Tiananamen Square, the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven, as well as gaining a taste of the culture while staying in private homes.
Cost for the eleven-day tour is approximately $2,000 per student, and as there are no county or taxpayer funds available to help students with the trip, students are responsible to raise their own funds. Chick-fil-A fundraisers benefit everyone. When purchasing a Cow Calendar, each buyer receives $28 in Chick-fil-A coupons and helps send sixteen deserving young people on the trip of a lifetime.
