Tails are wagging all over Town in anticipation of Parker's Fifth Annual Barker Days event on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at O'Brien Park, 10795 Victorian Dr. in Parker. The event will feature a temporary dog park in the O'Brien Park ball field and H2O'Brien Pool, dog demonstrations, contests and dog-related vendors.
Dogs and their owners should come to O'Brien Park for canine fun and socialization. Dogs can take a dip in the pool (closed to humans for the season and neutralized to be dog-friendly), chase balls and frisbees on the baseball field, check out the agility course and demonstrations, enter speed and trick contests and rub noses with local dog-related service providers. A separate play area will be provided for small dogs under 25 pounds that prefer to play with friends their own size.
In order to ensure a fun and safe event, owners are asked to follow certain guidelines at the event. Dogs must wear a current rabies tag and ID tag at all times. Dogs are able to run freely within event boundaries, but it is important to keep a watchful eye on your dog.
Owners are liable for their pets behavior and are responsible for keeping their dogs under control and within event boundaries. Leashes are required outside of the fenced event area and should be kept handy at all times. Owners are responsible for picking up after their own dogs; disposable bags will be provided. All dogs must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.
Please, no more than two dogs per adult. Kids are welcome at the event, but may not be solely responsible for any dog and should be closely supervised. Dogs in heat, puppies under four months or who have not had final shots, aggressive dogs and dogs who are sick may not attend.
The owner of any dog displaying mounting behavior must immediately leash and remove the dog from the situation. Owners are liable for their pets and are responsible for keeping their dogs within event boundaries.
Registration for Barker Days is $5 per dog for Parker residents, $7 for nonresidents; humans are free. Due to the popularity of this event, it is highly recommended that you pre-register at www.ParkerRec.com. Registration the day of the event will be on a space-available basis. Dogs who pre-register will have expedited check-in and receive a "doggie bag" of treats courtesy of local businesses.
