New Costco in Parker still on hold
Contributed by: Dot the intrepid dog reporter on 11/2/2007

Do you know what the status is with the negotiations between Parker and Costco regarding a new store here in Parker? A few months ago there was an article in one of the local papers stating that a new Costco store was being considered for an area east of Parker Road on Cottonwood, and grading began there soon after that. But there has been no further publicity on this since then.

Thanks for the question Joe. I spoke with Elise Penington, community affairs director for Parker, and she told me that the site plan for a new Costco Retail Warehouse located at the corner of Cottonwood Drive and Crown Crest Boulevard has been submitted, but that it's still under review.

An incentives package for Costco, which includes an $8 million sales and excise tax shareback, was approved and submitted by council members April 16 of this year, but Costco has not yet announced plans to build.

"Right now, they have not closed on any land," Penington said. "Until then, it's still not finalized."

Penington said town officials are eager for Costco to locate in Parker.

"Parker would love for them to come here," she said. "It could really jumpstart economic growth and activity on the north end of town."

As for the grading you saw there, it was done by the current owner of the land, Crown Point Development.
