Several Parker locations will be featured in a new teen horror movie titled
Text
, about a high school girl whose friends suddenly die after receiving mysterious text messages on their cell phones.
The movie
, which is being filmed in and around Parker through Feb. 14, is the product of Parker-based production company IC Entertainment. Much of the film is shot in Parker, particularly at the new
Parker Fieldhouse
, according to director
Brian McCulley
.
"The Fieldhouse is beautiful," McCulley said. "Parker in general is a beautiful community."
Crews also are filming scenes at Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co., 19565 E. Mainstreet, as well as a local warehouse, he said.
McCulley added that Parker Mayor
David Casiano
will be cast in the movie, playing the role of a principal.
"We're really excited to have him on board," he said.
Casiano, who has been involved in several local plays, said he's happy filmmakers decided to choose the town for their location.
"I am extremely excited that they are shooting a movie here in Parker," Casiano said. "It opens up a whole new possibility for the town that we never really pursued - that film companies can come here and shoot a major motion picture."
The film centers around high school senior Sarah Madison, played by
Hanna Hall
(
Forrest Gump
,
Halloween
). Madison's sister in the movie dies in a car wreck, leaving behind only her cell phone in the wreckage.
Madison, grieving from the loss of her sister, decides to keep it and transfers her contact list into her sister's cell. One by one, her closest friends begin to die in what appears to be an accident.
McCulley, who said he's hoping for a PG-13 rating, insists
Text
is not a "teen slasher."
"It's a psychological thriller," he said. "It's about mind control."
The movie, which likely will be distributed sometime this fall, features the work of several Colorado residents, including Hall, McCulley, assistant director
John Crockett
, screenwriter
Ken Maskrey
, executive producer
Jennifer Maskrey
and co-cinematographer
David Higgins
.
