Beautiful. He thought with a sigh. She is so beautiful. She hadn't looked up yet, but he was intent on being noticed. Straightening his tie, he walked right up to where she was sitting. He just stood there awhile, debating about what he should say. She looked up from her book, one eyebrow raised as she glared softly at him.
"Can I help you sir?" She asked sarcastically, her voice cold.
"I-uh, I was just over there, and--" He gestured, "well, I noticed you over here reading and I thought you looked a bit familiar." He attempted to smile, but she didn't react. "I must have mistaken I guess, my name's Chris." He smiled again.
Her expression softened slightly, but her stare remained cold. "Emily." She stated harshly, before returning to her book, intending to ignore him.
Chris sat down beside her, looking over her shoulder, "What ya reading?" He asked casually, trying to have a conversation with her.
"A Tale of Two Cities," She said with a sigh, seeming annoyed about being disturbed.
Chris was silent for awhile. "Well, so are you hungry?" He asked, "I know a little restaurant a few blocks down with really good-" He stopped abruptly as she shook her head. He tried again, "How about some coffee then?" Sighing agitatedly, she set her book down and raised her eyes to his, her stare the same as before.
"I'm sorry sir, but I'm not really your type."
He nodded, feeling his face grow hot. "Alright then," He stood up, "have fun reading." She shook her head briefly, watching him walk away before re-opening her book and continuing where she left off.
