Parker Art Show was huge success
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel on 8/28/2006

Members of the Parker Artists Guild (PAG) know how to put on an art show and they proved it over the weekend of Aug. 26 and 27. Defying the elements on Friday evening, tents sprung up in the wind and rain. More than 80 local artisans descended on O'Brien Park. By 10 a.m. Saturday, the park was lined with tents, live music was playing and vendors were offering food and drinks to thousands of visitors.

Judges awarded cash prizes in several categories to exhibitors. Visitors were able to cast their own ballots for the "peoples' choice." Award winners were:

Best in Show: Nancy and Jerry Yarrison
Peoples' Choice exhibitor: Pam Hostetler

Fine Art category awards went to:
1st Place - Gerd Anton and Julie Hasenfratz
2nd Place - Pam Nicholson
3rd Place - Lyle Clift

Fine Craft category awards went to:
1st - Alan Lambert
2nd - Kathy Leary
3rd - Liza and Craig Liftee

Photography category awards went to:
1st - Judy Deist
2nd - David Gill
3rd - Cliff Reynolds

The Students Art category awards went to:
1st - Kaelin Groom
2nd - Jon Vela
3rd - Tracy Clifford

PAG wants to thank the judges who worked so hard with such a daunting task;
Connie Mohrman and Gail Sechrist (Fine Art), Cathy Avram and Lori Beckman (Fine Craft), and Laurie Harbert and Bill Meyer (Photography).

The PAG committee responsible for bringing this popular annual event to Parker was chaired by Jerry Yarrison. He was able to call on dozens of dedicated and enthusiastic member volunteers to achieve success. Visitors from the local area and from great distances have discovered the immense amount of artistic talent in our community and continue to come back to enjoy Art in the Park.

All the people exhibiting in the show were helpful and friendly as well as having good art of all kinds. The rain dampened Saturday spirits part of the day, but Sunday was great. The volunteers working really did a good job keeping order and helping with everything.

Joe, I'm sitting here enjoying my "Wagon Wheel II" print, a signed Joe McDaniel original. Can't wait to hang it in the oval office.
