Denver's own Dr. Reggie Washington was nominated for the 2008 American Heart Association Gold Heart Award, the organization's highest honor. The Gold Heart Award is an honor bestowed by the Women and Minorities Leadership Committee of the American Heart Association's (AHA).
A long-time supporter of the AHA, Dr. Washington is presently chief medical officer for the HealthONE Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and medical director for Rocky Mountain Pediatrix Cardiology. His involvement with the AHA includes two terms on the board of directors of the national AHA and he currently serves on the National Science Advisory and Coordinating Committee and is a member of the Healthcare Childhood Obesity Expert Panel of the AHA.
Dr. Washington has also served on the AHA task force for Cardiovascular Drugs for the Indigent, Tobacco Companies and Volunteer Leadership Development. In addition to serving on these committees, Dr. Washington received the Physician of the Year Award from the national AHA, the Colorado AHA Torch of Hope Award, the Colorado Gold Heart Award and the Colorado AHA Volunteer of the Year Award.
As a nationally renowned speaker and pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Washington has published over 55 articles in peer-reviewed journals on pediatric cardiology and related topics and serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Pediatrics, the Editorial Board of Congenital Heart Disease, and the Editorial Board of Obesity Management Journal.
