Mountain View (MV) Elementary School began a monthly program to collect and send donated school supplies to schools in Afghanistan.
Mrs.
Laurie Rondou, 3rd grade teacher at MV, was told that there was a critical shortage of school supplies there, by her son
SSG Ben Rondou, US Army Reserves. SSG Rondou is a former Northeast Elementary School student who is currently serving in Afghanistan.
When she wanted to send her son and his fellow soldiers care packages, he told her that it would be even better to send school supplies to the children in Afghanistan. Many of the village schools don't have supplies, and some don't even have teachers.
Mrs. Rondou's class collected almost 130 pounds of school supplies over the month of March. The class then had a "packing party" at the end of the month, and shipped all the boxes to SSG Rondou's unit, to disperse in Afghanistan.
Another MV class, Mrs.
Bess Minor's second graders, is continuing with the same effort, over the month of April. MV hopes to continue the monthly school supply drives for Afghanistan, next school year.
