I am a senior at Chaparral High School, and I was recently in a musical called
Revival! at my church. People who came to see the show loved it so much, we're performing it again on September 12 th and 13 th. I wanted to give you an insider's look at the show because I absolutely loved this production, and not just because I was in it. I loved it because the audiences were so enthusiastic, and they got something out of it besides great entertainment.
The story takes place at a revival. There are several conflicts, but the main two are that it seems one of the revival leaders, Sister Dahlia, has gone crazy. And her brother, Brother Beauregard, may have been using his position to attract women. I play their half sister, Natasha, who was born years after their father died. Our grandfather, who hated me, forced my mom to leave, taking me and leaving Dahlia and Beau with him.
The story of
Revival! shows how speculation and accusations can really get to a person. This show made me think quite a bit. When first doing the read-through, I didn't understand all the elements that went into making the plot interesting and exciting. As the rehearsals became more developed (and people learned their lines!), I began to see the real messages of the show. Most importantly, this play showed that anyone is capable of receiving God's love, and using that love to help others around them, if they only have the courage to let it in. I talked with a lot of people after this show who said they were really touched by it, and that they hoped to integrate that message into their own lives.
We felt their enthusiasm even as we performed. It was so motivating, and gave so much energy and life to the show itself.
If you missed the show the first time, I hope you'll come to one of the encore performances. You won't have trouble picking me out. I'm the angry one who's always yelling at Sister Dahlia and Brother Beau.
Oh, I should remind you that
Revival! encore performances are September 12 th and 13 th at Parker United Methodist Church (11805 S. Pine Drive). Tickets are $10, which includes a dessert bar. You can buy tickets through the church office (303-841-3979) or at the door.
