It's time to change a tragic statistic. Currently in the U.S., within two years of emancipating from foster care, 60% of the youth aging out will be incarcerated, homeless or dead. This is not for lack of determination, the resilience of foster youth is beyond most of our imaginations. But they need your help. They get behind when changing foster homes means changing schools, often mid-semester. I work with a group of our community's foster youth who are asking me to find them tutors. They want to catch up and they want to succeed. They know achieving their high school diploma is essential to their future. Each year, Advocates for Children, the CASA agency for the 18th Judicial District located in Aurora, supports over 150 volunteers who in turn serve nearly 700 abused and neglected children across the district. For more information about our program, our agency or how you can help please contact Diane Himat, Legacy Program Coordinator at 303-636-9697.
