Have you heard of "Speed Dating"? The concept involves many suitors and prospective mates, and there is a small window of time to meet and learn more about one another. The members of the Douglas County Volunteer Coalition have decided to employ this unique concept to help you find your perfect match when it comes to volunteer opportunities. Jan Munoz, event organizer and staff member at Volunteers of America, has said that the Speed Volunteering event is, "a way to find your volunteer match."
The event will occur on October 7, 2008 from 5-7 pm at the Southridge Recreation Center, 4800 McArthur Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch. Any community member that wants to volunteer in their community is encouraged to attend. Participants will briefly meet with representatives from 7-10 Douglas County agencies, and learn about their specific volunteer needs. Agencies attending include Douglas County Libraries, CASA Advocates for Children, Dumb Friends League's Buddy Center, Castle Rock Senior Center, the Wildlife Experience, the Douglas Elbert Task Force and others.
The Douglas County Volunteer Coalition previously held a similar event in Castle Rock in February 2008 that was well attended, and met with positive community feedback. The decision was made to replicate the event in Highlands Ranch.
Jan Munoz, staff member at Volunteers of America, is organizing this event and previoulsy organized the last event with help from member agencies and other members of the Douglas County Volunteer Coalition. She is excited to report that the event is free to all community members, and light food and beverages will be provided. Munoz said, "If you wish to help your community through volunteering or need to volunteer for high school credit, this event is for you!" There will be door prizes as well.
For more information, contact Jan Munoz of Volunteers of America at 303-297-0408.
